• TRAI releases recommendations for 5G auction, slashes base prices by 35-40%

    The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on April 11 released recommendations on the ‘Auction of spectrum in frequency bands identified for IMT / 5G’.


    TRAI had decided to set the reserve prices for spectrum bands of 22 telecom circles in the country.  To attract competitive bidding by Telecom players like Airtel Jio, And Vodafone Idea TRAI has recommended slashing the base price of 5G airwaves, suggesting a 40 percent reduction in the price of 700 MHz bands and 36 percent cut in the spectrum frequency of 3300-3670 MHz bands.

    In Week 12 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, Star Utsav bagged the top spot in the across genre category with 2738.73 (000) AMA. Dhinchaak took a steep leap from 5th spot to 2nd spot with 2487.3 (000) AMA as compared to week 11. Star Maa dropped from 1st spot to 3rd spot with 2447.26 (000) AMA followed by Sun TV from 2nd spot to 4th spot with 2373.33 (000) AMA and Star Plus from 3rd spot to 5th spot with 2179.56 (000) AMA. Sony Sab retained its 6th spot with 1623.77 (000) AMA. Colors Rishtey was the new entrant in the top 10 charts with 1595.22 (000) AMA and claimed the 7th spot. Star Vijay retained its 8th spot with 1592.49 (000) AMA. Colors was another new entrant with 1507.96 (000) AMA and stood at the 9th spot. Star Pravah slipped one spot down and stood at the 10th spot with 1492.23 (000) AMA.

Star Maa maintained its top spot with 2385.45 (000) AMA followed by Sun TV with 2366.35 (000) AMA at the 2nd spot and Star Vijay at the 3rd spot with 1589.67 (000) AMA. Zee Telugu retained its 4th spot with 1398.53 (000) AMA followed by Zee Kannada with 1321.71 (000) AMA at the 5th spot.

    Republic Media Network has recorded a historic week in terms of viewership ratings.

    “Republic TV has continued its unbeaten run across all-time bands in the English news genre with 40.66 percent market share. Republic Bangla with 28.8 percent market share has unseated ABP Ananda, the two-decade-old news leader in the genre, as the Number 1 Bengali news channel and Republic Bharat has maintained its top position above Aaj Tak.

  • I&B Ministry cancelled 8 MSO licenses between January – March 2022

    New Delhi: The Information & Broadcasting Ministry has permitted 13 new licenses to Multi-System Operators (MSOs). The new license allotment is between the period of January 1, 2022, and March 21, 2022, which has increased the total number of registered MSOs from 1750 on December 30, 2021, to 1,763 as of March 21, 2022.
