• BARC Week 31: Mazhavil Manorama surges to No. 2 position in Malayalam GEC market

    BARC India released its Week 31 data for South GEC markets including Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam. The positions in the top five list changed for one market.

    Tamil (Tamil Nadu/Pondicherry)

    In the Tamil speaking market, the positions in the chart remained same compared to last week. Sun TV continued its lead with 2224.74 (000) AMA followed by Star Vijay with 1441.5 (000) AMA at the 2nd spot and Zee Tamil at 3rd spot with 870.36 (000) AMA. KTV retained its 4th spot with 755.19 (000) AMA followed by Star Vijay Super with 428.85 (000) AMA at 5th spot.

    According to Chrome LIVE Week 30’22 data, Hindi Movies genre became the top gainer of the week as it grew by 0.35 pc in HSM excluding <1 lakh market. Sony Wah gained the highest OTS with 94.2 pc followed by Zee Anmol Cinema with 93.2 pc at the second position and Star Utsav Movies with 92.8 pc at the third position.

    Hindi GEC genre claimed the second position by gaining 0.25 pc in HSM excluding <1 lakh market. DD National gained the highest OTS with 99.8 pc followed by Colors Rishtey with 92.9 pc at the second position and Sony Pal with 92.2 pc at the third position.

    Youth genre stood at third position by gaining 0.16 pc in HSM excluding <1 lakh market. In this genre, MTV and Zing garnered the highest OTS with 88.9 pc and took the first and second positions respectively followed by Zoom with 86.6 pc at the third position.

    Kids genre claimed the fourth position and grew by 0.06 pc in All India 1 Lakh+ market. Sony YAY! gained the highest OTS with 90.1 pc followed by Discovery Kids with 83.0 pc at the second position and Nickelodeon Junior with 82.3 pc at the third position.

    According to Chrome LIVE Week 29’22 data, English GEC genre became the top gainer of the week as it grew by 0.74 pc in 6 Metros. In this genre, The Q secured the highest OTS with 45.4 pc followed by Colors Infinity with 40.0 pc at second position and Comedy Central with 39.1 pc at the third position.

    Infotainment genre claimed the second position by gaining 0.73 pc in All India 1 Lakh+ market. History TV 18 garnered the highest OTS with 89.3 pc followed by Animal Planet with 86.2 pc at second position and Discovery with 86.0 pc at the third position.

    Sports genre secured the third position and grew by 0.63 pc in All India 1 Lakh+ market. DD Sports gained the highest OTS with 96.2 pc followed by Star Sports First with 83.1 pc and Star Sports 2 with 81.3 pc.

    According to Chrome LIVE Week 28’22 data, English GEC genre became the top gainer of the week as it grew by 1.25 pc in 6 Metros. In this genre, The Q garnered the highest OTS with 45.4 pc followed by Colors Infinity with 39.3 pc at second position and Comedy Central with 38.4 pc at the third position.

    Hindi Movies genre stood at second position by gaining 0.95 pc in HSM excluding <1 lakh market. Sony Wah gained the highest OTS with 94.2 pc followed by Zee Anmol Cinema with 93.1 pc at the second position and Star Utsav Movies with 92.7 pc at the third position.

    Religious genre claimed the third position by gaining 0.91 pc in HSM excluding <1 lakh market. Sanskar channel secured the highest OTS with 99.8 pc followed by Aastha with 98.4 pc at second position and Zee Salaam with 92.9 pc at the third position.

     

     

    English News genre stood at fourth position by gaining 0.42 pc in 6 Metros. In this genre, Sansad TV garnered the highest OTS with 100.0 pc followed by Republic TV with 99.7 pc at second position and CNN News 18 with 83.1 pc at the third position.

    The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has issued a consultation paper on 'Renewal of Multi-System Operators (MSOs) Registration' following a reference from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).

    Sports genre claimed the second position and grew by 0.05 pc in All India 1 Lakh+ market. DD Sports gained the highest OTS with 96.6 pc followed by Star Sports First with 82.9 pc and Star Sports 2 with 81.2 pc.

    Business News genre stood at third position unchanged in 6 Metros. CNBC TV18 secured the highest OTS with 81.8 pc followed by CNBC Awaaz with 78.2 pc and ET Now with 74.7 pc.

  • MSOs granted six new licenses by MIB

    Multi-System Operators (MSOs) were granted six new licenses by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) from21st April 2022 to 4th July 2022. Four are companies, one is proprietor ship and one is partnership firm. The total number of registered MSOs now stands at 1,753.

In this genre, MTV channel garnered the highest OTS with 89.3 pc followed by Zing with 88.8 pc at second position and Zoom with 84.8 pc at the third position.

    Religious genre secured the second position and grew by 0.07 pc in HSM excluding <1 lakh market. Sanskar channel gained the highest OTS with 99.7 pc followed by Aastha with 98.5 pc at the second position and Zee Salaam with 92.5 pc at the third position.

    Ever since the news television ratings have resumed, almost every stakeholder is more or less convinced that the data is not the true representation of BARC’s tagline – “What India Watches”. Even BARC officials, its Board and its stakeholders are of the view that a few news channels are resorting to every possible trick to rig the data.
