• TRAI directs six MSOs to ensure compliance of new regulatory framework

    MUMBAI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued directions to six multi system operators (MSOs) to comply with the provisions of the new regulatory framework. In the directions dated 16th April, the regulator has also directed the MSOs to submit a compliance report within five days.

    The directions have been issued to Hathway Digital, DEN Networks, IndusInd Media and Communications Ltd (IMCL), Siti Networks, GTPL Hathway, and Fastway Transmission. The directions were issued following complaints received from consumers and inspection of consumer homes by TRAI officials.

    BENGALURU: Week 14 of 2019 is only the second week that Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) has started publishing viewership data in the public domain after the new TRAI tariff regime was established.  Week 14 of 2019 is the week starting Saturday, 30 March 2019 and ending Friday, 5 April 2019. Before week 13 of 2019, BARC had published data for week 1 to 5 of 2019 in calendar year 2019. Unlike many other genres such as Hindi GEC that have been affected by the new tariff regime followed by their exiting from Prasar Bharati’s DD FreeDish, the four South Indian news language channels have been mostly unaffected in terms of presence in  BARC’s weekly lists of top five news channels of the respective language.

    BENGALURU: Hathway Cable and Datacom Ltd’s (Hathway Cable) says that the new Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) tariff order (NTO), which came into effect during the fourth quarter of 2019, resulted in changes in pricing mechanism and arrangements amongst the company, LCOs and broadcasters as well as equity infusion. These adjustments, having a one-time impact on financial statements have been disclosed as 'Exceptional Item' in its financial results for the period. Exceptional items in FY 2019 impacted the company to the extent of Rs 429.62 crore as compared to just Rs 5.34 crore in FY 2018.

    MUMBAI: With the new TRAI tariff order (NTO) coming into the picture, DTH players have been on a roll in a bid to grab consumers’ attention by launching long-term recharge offers. Likewise, TataSky has also launched new packs starting at Rs 139.

    The major DTH player is rolling out six new packs with effect from 23 April 2019. The pack consists of two sports channel packs and four regional channel packs for Gujarati and Odia.

    Shemaroo Entertainment Limited, one of India’s leading content power houses, has acquired 50 per cent stake in Dominiche Productions, a media and entertainment firm. With this collaboration, Shemaroo will mark its entry in the Astrology market. 

    Dominiche, which started with a vision to build on scalable genres of the future, will now strengthen its portfolio by collaborating with Shemaroo.
    Incorporated in October 2017, Dominiche Productions first launched their Astrovani segment on Airtel DTH and following its success, they launched the same on Dish TV, Videocon D2H, Amazon Firestick, NDTV App and Jio TV.

  • ABP Ganga to air 10 hours of live reporting every day: Avinash Pandey

    MUMBAI: ABP News Network’s new Hindi news channel ABP Ganga targeted at Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will air 10 hours of live reporting every day. The channel aims to reach 20 million viewers in UP and Uttarakhand.

    The new channel, which went on-air from today, has recruited 100 editorial staff to report on the state-related issues. Raj Kishor Tiwari has been appointed as the editor of the channel and will be reporting to ABP News Network CEO Avinash Pandey.
