MUMBAI: India’s Department of Space, overseeing the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has eased up on its hitherto hard stance on Indian TV channels and teleports using foreign satellites’ capacity --- if the Indian customer has a long-term contract.
In a communication to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), DoS/ISRO combine has advised that applications may be processed --- for the time being --- without insistence on migration to an Indian satellite or asking the time frame for doing it.

Let the games begin. That’s the clarion call that Comcast CEO Brian Roberts has given by making an offer of $65 billion to acquire the Murdoch-owned Fox entertainment assets. Priced at $35 a share, the Comcast “superior” offer is at a 19 per cent premium over what Disney’s Bob Iger made last year at $28 per share or $52.4 billion in an all-stock transaction. The deal is undergoing regulatory approval and includes Fox's movie studios, networks Nat Geo and FX, Asian pay-TV operator Star TV, and stakes in Sky, Endemol Shine Group and Hulu, as well as regional sports networks.

The Telecom Disputes Settlement and appellate Tribunal in an interim arrangement has directed West Bengal based Multi Reach Media Pvt Ltd and
Sony Pictures Networks India Pvt Ltd to enter into a RIO based agreement which shall be deemed to be from June 15, 2018.
“We direct the petitioner and the respondents to enter into a RIO based agreement which will be subject to final result of this petition. The RIO based agreement shall be deemed to be effective from 15th of this month. The parties shall complete the formalities within 24 hours,” the order read.

MUMBAI: With a growth of 1.75 per cent as compared to last week (22), the English Movies genre marked the highest opportunity to see (OTS) among all categories in week 23 of Chrome Data Analytics & Media. In the English Movies genre, Sony Pix gained the highest OTS with 63.9 per cent in six metros. OTS is the actual census-based percentage connectivity of a channel spread across 81 million homes, reported by Chrome DM, across analogue cable, digital cable and DTH.

MUMBAI: Broadband and cable TV service provider Hathway Cable and Datacom is planning a Capex of Rs 310 crore in FY19. The company had deployed a similar Capex in FY18. The company is also getting aggressive on high definition (HD) set top box (STB) deployment. It plans to seed 2.5 lakh HD STBs in FY19.
