Republic Media Network on Sunday issued threats to media houses reporting on the ongoing TRP probe and the purported WhatsApp chats between Republic's Founder and Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami and former BARC India CEO Partho Dasgupta.
Republic had earlier responded to questions raised by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi, after it came to light that Goswami regularly shared sensitive information with Dasgupta in WhatsApp chats.
It is important to note that Republic and Goswami have never denied the content of the chats. On the contrary, the latest statement by Republic has quoted these chats several times.
KOLKATA: The DTH sector has added 120,000 new users in July-September quarter to reach the total active subscriber base of 70.70 million. Leading player Tata Sky beat out competitors to once again emerge as the most favoured brand, while also extending its market share to 32.58 per cent from 32.09 per cent in the previous quarter.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) released ‘The Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicators’ report for the quarter ended 30 September 2020. Among other players, Dish TV gave up some of its market share to settle at 27 per cent at the end of Q2 FY21. Airtel Digital TV and Sun Direct are third and fourth on the list, controlling 24.59 per cent and 15.83 per cent of the market respectively.
The owners of English news channel Times Now, which was affected by the alleged manipulations of viewership numbers, said they are contemplating legal actions against the rating agency BARC India and accused the present Management and Board of inaction in the matter.
Bennett Coleman & Company Ltd. (BCCL) is a subscriber of viewership data from Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), for its Channels including "Times Now" operating under Times Network.
A press statement from Times Network said, “Since 2017 and specially after the launch of Republic TV in May 2017, BCCL/ Times Network suspected large scale manipulation of ratings pertaining to illegal usage of multiple LCNs and out of EPG placement by Republic TV. We also found significant abnormalities in Market wise ratings of that channel clearly indicating ground level tampering and/ or deliberate intervention at the raw data level to favour them. Times Network repeatedly complained about these irregularities to BARC for almost 2 years but got no resolution as the complaints routinely resulted in stock replies.
