Government-run broadcaster Doordarshan, which has a mere 3.2 million subscribers on YouTube, clocked a peak live viewership of more than half-a-million (5.5 lakh) during the Republic Day Parade hours.
The only private news channel to come close to the national pubcaster was Aaj Tak, which has 44 million subscribers on YouTube. Aaj Tak had a peak live viewership of around 3.5 lakh during the parade hours.
All private channels took the live parade feed from Doordarshan.
The government-owned Press Information Bureau's YouTube channel had a peak live viewership of 75,000.

NBF learns that at least four broadcast journalists working for NewX and India News were threatened and attacked by unidentified antisocial elements aimed at disrupting and creating violence in New Delhi.
The News Broadcasters Federation (NBF) has expressed its deep concern and anguish over journalists and media personnel being threatened and physically attacked while covering the tractor rally on Republic Day.
As per the NBF statement four broadcast journalists working for NewsX and India News were threatened and attacked by unidentified antisocial elements aimed at disrupting and creating violence in New Delhi. Aishwarya Jain reporting from Red Fort was caught by collar and was threatened, physically hit and made to leave the spot. As per the statement, another journalist Ajit Shrivastava was surrounded by protestors with rods and sticks in Nangloi. While Priya Singh & Aditya Nair, who were reporting from Red Fort were threatened and asked to leave.
“NBF strongly condemns any act of verbal or physical assault on journalists while during their professional duty in public interest. As an industry organisation, we call upon the authorities to immediately initiate strict action against the perpetrators, and ensure safety and security of journalists covering on-ground news events,” said R. Jai Krishna, Secretary-General, News Broadcasters Federation.
Amidst talks of a new National Broadcast Policy, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is looking to amend the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995 with the target of expanding the ambit of the act. After releasing a consultation paper early last year, the ministry is yet again pushing for the amendment.
As per highly placed sources, in a proposal document dated earlier this month, one of the key proposals of the amendment is to include broadcasters and DPOs in the purview of the act.
Alongside proposing a new name of The Television Transmission Network (Regulation) Act to the existing act, the said proposal highlights interesting changes.

New Delhi: The TRP scam that was unearthed by Mumbai Police on 8 October 2020 has brought the industry to a new low. Multiple broadcast networks have been attacking each other while the former leaders of the rating agencies have come under the scanner of investigation agencies.
Last week, Times Network in a press statement mentioned that its reputation and revenues are getting affected from TRP scam and it is contemplating legal action against individual perpetrators of the scam.
