• TRAI says TV industry saw 12.24% growth in FY 2018

    MUMBAI: While the global scenario reflects an impending death for TV in India soon, factors like rising OTT platforms and cheaper data rates, are also adding fuel to the fire. However, as per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Annual Report 2017-18, the TV sector revenue in the country has recorded a growth of 12.24 per cent since last year.
  • IAMAI suggests advertisers pay 0.25% of media spends to strengthen BARC measurement

    MUMBAI: Presenting counter comments to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) consultation paper on BARC TV viewership measurement, the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has said that advertisers can pay 0.25 per cent of their media spends for TV viewership measurement every year. It will not only help them in making judicious investments but will also largely contribute to the process of increasing panel size for audience measurement.

    MUMBAI: Broadcaster Star India has introduced six new packs under the new pricing regime and has disclosed plans to launch Star Sports 1 Bangla on or before 31st March.

    The six new packs include Bengali Hindi Premium, Bengali Hindi Premium HD, English Mini, English Mini HD, English Premium, and English Premium HD.

    BENGALURU: News is event driven – that is a fact that is known and repeated a dozen times and more by all publications, newsletters, and whatnots.  As per a Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) report presented at FICCI-Frames 2018, Hindi content still rules the Indian television landscape in terms of viewership. After Hindi GEC, Hindi movies and Hindi music, Hindi news is the most watched genre in the country. The report also says that contrary to popular perception, TV viewership is highest amongst youth (15-30 years) even in the digital age.

    MUMBAI: Broadcast Audience Research Council India (BARC), the country’s premier TV audience data measurer, has suggested to the Indian regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) that having more multiple measurement and ratings mechanisms may not be “advisable” and could create confusion. Instead, it was better to invest further in the existing currency with the goal to make it more robust.

  • Hathway set to surpass MTNL as fourth largest broadband player

    MUMBAI: Broadband service provider Hathway Cable and Datacom is all set to surpass MTNL to become the fourth largest broadband player in the market.

    According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) telecom subscription data report for December, MTNL and Hathway have tied with 0.78 million wired broadband customers each.

  • MIB grants six new TV licences in non-news category


     

    MUMBAI: The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has granted licence to six new TV channels between January and February. All the six new licences are under the non-news category.

    G-Next Media has obtained the approval for three channels namely PTC Music, PTC Punjabi Gold and PTC Simran. Skystar Entertainment, which owns and operates Skystar Movies, has received two new licences Skystar Bangla and Skystar Telugu.

    MUMBAI: Direct to home (DTH) operator Tata Sky has submitted to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) that the distribution platform operators (DPOs) must get representation in the Broadcasters Audience Research Council (BARC) India.
