• BARC week 41: Sony, Star, Dangal retain their No 1 positions in urban, pay and rural markets

    MUMBAI: In week 41 of BARC India ratings, Colors is placed at the fourth position from second last week in urban market. The channel has also moved down from second position in the last week to fifth position this week on pay platform. Even in rural market the channel has slipped from fifth position to seventh position. Sony Entertainment Television continues to hold first position in urban market. The pecking order of the Hindi GEC in urban market were Sony Entertainment Television, Star Plus, Sony SAB, Colors, ZEE TV, Dangal, Star Bharat, &TV, Big Magic and Star Utsav at first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions respectively.
  • Zeel reports higher op revenue, PAT for Q2 2020

    BENGALURU: The Subhash Chandra-led Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel) reported 7.6 percent and 7.4 percent y-o-y growth in total and operating revenues for the quarter ended 30 September 2019 (Q2 2020, quarter or period under review) as compared to the corresponding year ago quarter Q2 2019. Profit after tax grew 6.7 percent y-o-y, while Total comprehensive income (TCI) declined 9.5 percent y-o-y. Operating profit (EBITDA) grew 2.5 percent y-o-y in Q2 2020 as compared to Q2 2019.

    Zeel reported total revenues of Rs 2,190.13 crore and Rs 2,034.79 crore for Q2 2020 and Q1 2019 respectively. Operating revenue for the period under review was Rs 2,122.01 crore and Rs 1,975.86 crore respectively. PAT for Q2 2020 was Rs 412.09 crore, while it was Rs 386.10 crore for the corresponding year ago quarter. TCI for Q1 2020 and Q1 2019 were Rs 471.77 crore and 521.43 crore respectively. Simple operating EBITDA for the quarter under review was Rs 692.93 crore (32.65 percent margin) and for Q2 2019 it was 675.72 crore (34.20 percent margin of operating revenue.

  • Zeel Q2 revenue up 7.4%, profit up 6.9% in FY20

    For the second quarter of FY20, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) reported Total revenue for the quarter was Rs 21,220 million, growth of 7.4% YoY. The growth was driven by the strong performance of domestic broadcast and digital businesses.

    EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization) for the quarter grew by 2.5% to Rs 6,929 million and EBITDA margin stood at 32.7%.

    PAT for the quarter was Rs 4,132 million, up 6.9% from Rs 3,867 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    Advertising revenue for the quarter was Rs 12,247 million, growth of 1.2% YoY. Domestic advertising revenue grew by 1.4% YoY to Rs 11,690 million. International advertising revenue for the quarter was Rs 557 million.

  • News Broadcasting Standards Authority issues advisory on coverage of Ayodhya dispute verdict

    MUMBAI: While the Supreme Court ended the daily hearings of the Ayodhya dispute case on Wednesday, the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) has issued a special advisory for reporting of the sensitive issue. News broadcasters have been advised to conform strictly to  subserving the public interest of maintaining communal harmony and preservation of the secular ethos of the country while telecasting news related to the matter.

    “You will appreciate that the reporting of the Ayodhya issue being heard by the Hon’ble Supreme Court is one such matter in which extra care and caution needs to be exercised to ensure that the telecast of any news relating to it should not be sensational, inflammatory or provocative,” the organisation said in the advisory.

  • &flix reduces Hollywood movie TV premiere window to five months

    MUMBAI: While the general time to bring a Hollywood movie to Indian TV screens has been nine to 12 months, &flix has changed that with its new deal with Sony Pictures Television. Now, viewers can catch their favourite movies within a few months of launch.

    It will start with Sony Pictures Television’s MIB: International on 20 October 2019. It will also include some other titles from Sony Pictures Television’s library such as Spider-Man: Far From Home, Brightburn, Angry Birds 2, Jumanji: The Next Level, Charlie’s Angels (2019) and Zombieland 2.

  • Netflix’s mobile-only plan in India exceeds expectations; to help invest more in content

    MUMBAI: Netflix has bounced back in its Q3 2019 financials by posting revenue of $5.245 billion, which was almost in line with analysts’ prediction of $5.25 billion and was up by 31 per cent y-o-y. While the expected earnings per share were $1.04, Netflix boosted that by delivering $1.47. This is almost double the 89 cents that it had delivered a year ago.

    While the global subscriber addition was expected to be around 7 million, Netflix came in slightly short of that giving 6.8 million additions taking its total to 158.33 million. Average streaming paid memberships and ARPU grew 22 per cent and 9 per cent year-over-year, respectively.
