  • Myleeta Aga decides to leave BBC Studios after nearly a decade

    MUMBAI: BBC Studios Acting EVP Asia Myleeta Aga has called it quits after nearly a decade with BBC Worldwide. She is with the organisation till mid-October.

    Aga was earlier the SVP and General Manager, South East Asia and India. She got the additional responsibility of helping BBC Studios’ South-East Asia business in 2017. She was also the SVP & GM India, Asia Content Lead since November 2009.

    She was responsible for all BBC Worldwide’s businesses in India including, Production, TV Sales, BBC Global News Distribution, Consumer Products and Digital. She also oversaw content across Asia and was part of the BBC Worldwide Asia Executive Management Board.

    Aga’s decision to quit BBC Studios comes at a time when the organisation has brought its Asia and Australia and New Zealand regions together to create a newly formed Asia-Pacific (APAC) regional business comprising its international sales and distribution business.

  • TDSAT directs Dish TV to clear Star India’s dues in three equal installments by Nov-end

    MUMBAI: Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribuna (TDSAT) has directed DTH operator Dish TV to pay admitted dues to Star India in three equal installments by end of November.

    “Having considered the earlier order and the stand of the parties, we are of the view that in addition to the liability to clear the current invoice as indicated above, petitioner should liquidate the entire arrears to the extent admitted and already noted by end of November 2019 and for this petitioner shall pay the remaining outstanding dues towards the arrears in three equal instalments by end of September, October and November 2019,” TDSAT said in its order.

    The tribunal stated that Star will not give effect to the disconnection notice till the next date if Dish TV makes such payments within the time indicated above. The matter has been posted for hearing under the same head on 11th October.

  • OTT video platforms could usher in cord-cutting sooner than expected: Eros Now-KPMG report

    MUMBAI: While over the top (OTT) platforms are considered serious threat for traditional television, a recent report has suggested that the over the top (OTT) video could usher in cord-cutting sooner than expected.

    According to the joint report by Eros Now and KPMG in India on India’s OTT market, 38% of the respondents could consider cord-cutting in the future as they responded to their entertainment needs being fully met online.

    The ubiquitous access of online videos along with the diversity of content available could be the primary drivers behind such assertions made by the respondents, the report stated.

    It further stated that the intent to cut the cord may not actually translate into doing so eventually. The fact that more than a third of the respondents are willing to actively consider it outlines the rapid growth that digital video has made, and the threat that traditional video distribution could face in the long run, the report added.

    In a chat with exchange4media, he spoke about how the network has benefitted from NTO and why there is still a need for stability in the market in the wake of the new regime transition.

  • SPNI has seen huge uptake of channels on a la carte basis across genres: NP Singh

    MUMBAI: Contrary to the popular perception that consumers are primarily choosing TV channel bouquets created by broadcasters and distribution platform operators (DPOs), Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) MD and CEO NP Singh has said that his network has seen a huge uptake of channels on a la carte basis as well.

    Speaking on the sidelines of Sony Sab’s new show launch, Singh said that other genres apart from Hindi GECs have also seen offtake of channels on a la carte basis. He also stated that consumers have chosen a good mix of a la carte and bouquets as far as SPNI is concerned.
